have been announced.

The UK Chess Challenge is the largest chess competition in the world,
with (pre-COVID) more than 100,000 children taking part in schools and
elsewhere each year.  There are different stages to the competition:
school, Megafinal, Gigafinal and Terafinal.

The Megafinals in 2022 are open to all UK juniors born after 31/08/2003.  Players do not have to qualify through a school event.

There will be a mix of over-the-board and online Megafinals.

There will be no Megafinal event in Devon in 2022.

The nearest Megafinal event to Devon will be at Taunton Prep School on
12th June 2022, which will be supported by a bookshop from our very own
Tim Onions.

If a player does not qualify from the Taunton event, they can have another go in
the online events:

Saturday 18th June – U10s Online Megafinal 1
Sunday 19th June – U11-18s Online Megafinal 1

Saturday 2nd July – U11-18s Online Megafinal 2
Sunday 3rd July – Under 10s Online Megafinal 2

It’s a design classic.  The shapes for the pieces are all big, clear and sit on a plinth, nicely supported…

  • British Champs 2023

I’ve been trying to find and follow the progress of Devon juniors in this year’s Championships, but please email me if I’ve missed anyone. I spotted Luke Honey and Reece Whittington having a go in the strong 9-round Major Open, scoring 5 and 3.5 respectively.  A tough week in the office!  (For context, the winner…
